There are a number of ways to find what you are looking for in the encyclopedia. Search is always available and is outlined in the Search section of the User Guide.
Browsing Articles A-Z
You can also find articles by browsing the encyclopedia.
To view the alphabetical list of entries, select Browse on the main navigation bar.
In the window that opens, choose the letter that corresponds to the entry you are looking for.
From the alphabetical list of entries that appears, choose the article you are interested in viewing (1). The first few sentences of the entry will appear. To read the entire article, click GO TO ARTICLE (2).
Note: For help with the spelling of Hebrew or Yiddish words, we have included transliteration tables. You can access them from the window that opens when you select Browse from the main navigation bar.
Browsing from Article to Article
When you are viewing an article, you can also browse by clicking on the Previous Article and Next Article at the top of the page underneath the main menu.
Exploring Topics
Another way to browse articles is by choosing one of the six topics under Explore a Topic on the homepage:
Each of the six topical pages—Arts; Daily Life; Places; Language & Literature; History & Politics; and Religion—contains articles, media, and special interactive elements, such as slideshows and historical timelines, that will help you explore the topic more deeply. This is a great place to start your exploration if you want to get a taste of what the encyclopedia has to offer.
